This Privacy Policy explains how KNM Exam Prep (“the App”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information. The App helps you prepare for the Dutch Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNM) integration exam. By using the App, you agree to this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We only collect what we need to run the App:

Account information: your name, email address, and a password. Passwords are never stored in plain text — they are securely hashed.
Learning progress: your practice and exam results, scores, and per-topic performance, so the App can show your statistics and personalised review.
Guest use: if you use the App as a guest (without an account), your progress is stored only on your device and is not sent to our servers.

We do not collect your location, we do not use advertising or third-party tracking, and we do not sell your data to anyone.

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your account and let you sign in.
To save your learning progress and show your statistics.
To send password-reset codes when you request them.
To keep the App secure and working properly.

3. How Your Information Is Stored and Shared

Your data is stored securely in a cloud database and transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate the App, who process data only on our behalf:

MongoDB Atlas — secure database hosting for your account and progress.
Render — hosting for our backend servers.
Resend — sending password-reset emails.

We do not share your personal information with any other parties except as required by law.

4. Data Retention and Account Deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from within the App (Settings → Delete Account). Deleting your account removes your personal information and learning data from our systems.

5. Security

We protect your information using industry-standard measures, including password hashing, encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.

6. Children’s Privacy

The App is intended for adults preparing for the civic integration exam and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete your data yourself in the App, or contact us using the details below for any request.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
